Black Pyramid

Designed by George Christian with software by Rehman Merchant, artwork by Greg Freres, and sound by Bob Libbe, M. Bartlow, and Neil Falconer, Black Pyramid blends mid-1980s arcade technology with ancient Egyptian adventure.

The game features a single-level playfield, four flippers, drop targets, pop bumpers, and speech effects — reflecting the era’s transition into more complex, electronically-enhanced gameplay. Its pyramid-themed backglass and stylized hieroglyphic art represent a broader pop culture fascination with archaeology and myth during the 1980s, seen in films like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Though not a major commercial hit, Black Pyramid is remembered for its striking visuals, approachable gameplay, and its place in Bally’s portfolio during a transitional period in pinball history.
