Support Our WorkReleased by D. Gottlieb & Co. in June 1964, Bonanza is a Western-themed two-player electro-mechanical pinball machine designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Roy Parker. Gottlieb produced 2,640 units of this flipperless game, which marked Ed Krynski's first design as Gottlieb's main game designer. The machine uses mechanical scoring reels for display.
The playfield features Western imagery including cowboys, gold mines, and frontier scenes. As a flipperless machine, gameplay relies on skillful plunger shots and playfield angles to direct the ball toward scoring targets and holes. The machine measures 175 cm in height, 73 cm in width, and 134 cm in depth.
Bonanza reflects the popularity of television Westerns in 1964, when shows like the series "Bonanza" dominated American entertainment. The machine represents the transition period in Gottlieb's design team, as Ed Krynski assumed the lead designer role that would define the company's output through the mid-1960s.
