Released by Williams Electronic Manufacturing Corporation on December 14, 1964, Zig Zag is a sports and water sports-themed electro-mechanical pinball machine designed by Steve Kordek with artwork by George Molentin. Williams produced 1,674 units of this single-player machine (1,222 for USA/Canada, 454 for export), selling at a distributor price of $330.00.
The playfield features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, five rollover buttons, three kick-out holes, and left and right dual outlanes. The machine offers a maximum score of 9,999 points with a replay wheel maximum of 20. Gameplay options include 3 or 5 ball play. The machine features a mechanical backbox animation and a reverse wedge head design.
Zig Zag represents mid-1960s Williams engineering with Steve Kordek at the design helm during a period when he created many of the companys most notable games. The machines add-a-ball counterpart was released as "Wing Ding" in the same year. With an average fun rating of 7.6/10, Zig Zag remains a respected example of classic electro-mechanical pinball from Williams golden era.
